The challenge for this book cover design was to create a new take that still felt true to the story. I specifically wanted to try for a modern thriller feel, as this book could definitely appeal to readers of that genre. Focusing on the eerie island and the feeling of drowning, I merged various images together to create a custom image of dark waters in front of a shadowy island. The pink accent color hints at the feminine narrative of Vera Claythorne while also creating a modern and unnatural, off-kilter feel. This feeling is pushed even further with the use of distorted text sinking into the shadowy depths, hitting home the theme of foreboding and—less figuratively—drowning.
This book design was created as a personal project.
